Who this policy covers, and who it does not
This policy applies to malina-australia.com, a review and guide site about Malina Casino written for an Australian audience. It explains what this website collects from you, why, and how long it is kept.
It does not apply to Malina Casino itself. The casino is run by a different company altogether: we hold no player accounts here and never take a deposit or process a payment. Anything you do after leaving this site falls under the operator’s own privacy policy, a separate document published on the operator’s own domain. Our Malina Casino site overview explains the relationship in plain terms.
Australian privacy law sits behind everything below. The Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the thirteen Australian Privacy Principles set the rules, and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, the OAIC, is the regulator that enforces them. The Act formally binds organisations above an annual turnover threshold, and smaller publishers can fall outside it. We work to the APPs regardless, since telling you we meet some lower bar would not amount to much of a commitment.
What this site collects, why, and how long it is kept
| Data | Why it is collected | Basis | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|
| IP address and approximate region | Security, abuse prevention and serving the right regional content | APP 3, necessary for running the site | 30 days in server logs, then deleted |
| Browser, device and operating system | Fixing layout faults and testing pages on the devices people actually use | APP 3 | 14 months, aggregated |
| Pages viewed, time on page, referring link | Working out which guides are useful and which need rewriting | Consent for analytics cookies | 14 months, then expires automatically |
| Cookie and analytics identifiers | Telling a returning visitor from a new one without ever naming anyone | Consent given in the cookie banner | 13 months, or until you clear them |
| Your email address, if you write to us | Answering your message and keeping the thread readable | APP 3, collected directly from you | 24 months after the last reply |
| The content of your message | Handling corrections, complaints and tip-offs about the operator | APP 6, used only for the purpose you sent it | 24 months after the last reply |
| Newsletter address, if you subscribe | Sending the update you asked for and nothing else | Consent, withdrawn by unsubscribing | Until you unsubscribe, then erased within 30 days |
| Anti-spam and rate-limit records | Blocking bots and automated abuse of the contact form | APP 11, security of information | 90 days |
Nothing in that table is sold, rented or traded. We do not run behavioural advertising on this site and we do not build reader profiles for anybody else to buy.
What we never collect
Readers assume more about this part than about anything in the table above, so here is the list in full.
- Payment details. No card numbers, no PayID identifiers, no bank account details, no crypto wallet addresses. There is no cashier on this site.
- Casino account credentials. We never ask for a username or password, and nobody writing to you from this site ever will.
- Identity documents. No passport scans, driver licences, selfies or utility bills. We have no verification process because we have no accounts to verify.
- Your gambling history. Deposits, stakes, wins and losses at Malina Casino are invisible to us.
If a page or an email claiming to be us asks for any of the above, it is not us. Check the address against our Malina Casino contact details before replying to anything.
Data the operator collects when you register
Opening an account at the casino is a separate transaction with a separate company, and a much larger amount of personal information changes hands. Expect the operator to collect your full name, date of birth, residential address, email, phone number and payment details, then to request verification documents before releasing a withdrawal. That normally means photo identification, a proof of address dated within the last three months and evidence that the payment method belongs to you.
The operator holds a Curaçao licence rather than an Australian one, and ACMA has no oversight of it, so those records end up with an offshore company under an offshore framework instead of under the Privacy Act. Australian rights of access and correction do not automatically reach them. Read the operator’s own terms before you upload anything; the Malina Casino data protection policy section of our terms guide explains what to look for and which clauses matter most.
Cookies, analytics and third parties
This site sets a small number of cookies. Strictly necessary ones keep the site working and cannot be switched off. Analytics and preference cookies only load after you accept them in the banner, and declining costs you nothing but our traffic statistics. Full detail, including lifetimes and how to clear them in each browser, is in our note on Malina Casino cookie usage.
A handful of service providers necessarily see some data in the course of delivering the site. We do not name vendors here because they change; the current list is available on request.
| Provider type | What it receives | Where data may be stored |
|---|---|---|
| Hosting and content delivery | IP address, request headers, pages requested | Australia and overseas data centres |
| Website analytics platform | Page views, device type, truncated IP, referring link | Overseas, commonly the United States |
| Email provider for the editorial inbox | Your address and the content of your message | Overseas |
| Security and bot filtering | IP address and request patterns | Global edge network |
Sending data outside Australia is a cross-border disclosure under APP 8, and we take reasonable steps to use providers with comparable protections. No provider is permitted to use what it receives for its own marketing.
Your rights under the Privacy Act
You can ask what personal information we hold about you and receive a copy, which is the access right in APP 12. You can ask us to correct anything wrong or out of date under APP 13. You can ask us to delete what we hold, and unless a legal obligation requires us to keep it, we will.
Send any of those requests to [email protected] with enough detail to find the records, such as the address you wrote from and roughly when. We aim to reply within 30 days, and we will tell you if a request needs longer or cannot be met in full.
If our answer does not satisfy you, complain to us first and give us 30 days. After that you can take the matter to the OAIC, which can investigate and make determinations. Coming to us first is the step the OAIC normally expects to see before it will take a complaint on.
Australia also runs the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme. If a breach involving personal information is likely to result in serious harm, we are required to notify the individuals affected and the OAIC, and we will do that promptly, in plain language, and somewhere you will actually come across it.
Security, children and changes
The site runs over HTTPS, access to the editorial inbox is limited to the people who need it, and we keep no database of readers because we collect far too little to justify one. No system is immune to a breach, which is part of why the retention periods above are as short as they are.
This site is intended for adults. Gambling content is restricted to people aged 18 and over in Australia, we do not knowingly collect information from anyone younger, and if we learn that we have, it is deleted. Parents who believe a child has contacted us can write to the editorial address and we will remove the records.
When this policy changes we update the date in the byline and, for anything material such as a new category of data or a new purpose, we publish a short note on the page explaining what changed.
Frequently asked questions
Does this site have access to my Malina Casino account?
No. We are a review and guide site with no connection to the operator’s systems, no access to balances, deposits or play history, and no ability to change anything on an account. Account questions go to the casino’s own support team.
How do I ask what data you hold about me?
Email [email protected] and include the address you contacted us from and roughly when. That is the access right under APP 12 of the Privacy Act 1988, and we aim to reply within 30 days.
Do you share my email address with the casino?
No. Messages to the editorial inbox stay with the editorial team and are not passed to Malina Casino, to any other operator, or to advertisers. Nothing collected on this site is sold or rented.
What happens to my data if I refuse cookies?
The site works normally. Strictly necessary cookies still load because the pages cannot be served without them, while analytics and preference cookies do not run at all, so no page-level statistics are recorded against your visit.
Who regulates privacy complaints in Australia?
The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, the OAIC, oversees the Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles. Raise the complaint with us first and allow 30 days, then escalate to the OAIC if you are not satisfied.
Play it safe
Privacy is one part of playing sensibly; money is the other. Malina Casino operates under a Curaçao licence, outside ACMA oversight, so Australian consumer protections do not extend to your balance or your dispute. Treat gambling as entertainment you have budgeted for and set a deposit limit before you start. Confidential support is free and available at any hour through Gambling Help Online on 1800 858 858. 18+ only.
